Dr. Elizabeth Chetty

Dr Elizabeth Chetty is a senior lecturer in the Department of Optometry at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Optometry, a Master’s degree, and a Doctorate in Optometry from the same institution. Dr Chetty manages the university’s specialty contact lens clinic, supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research, and lectures on contact lenses to final year optometry students. Her clinical and research interests focus on keratoconus, specialty contact lenses, myopia management, dry eye disease, and other ocular surface diseases. She has authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented her work at both national and international conferences.

She serves as Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the African Vision and Eye Health journal. She holds fellowships with the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE)—where she also represents Africa as an Ambassador—the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), and is currently a candidate for fellowship for the American Academy of Optometry. In addition, she is a Key Opinion Leader for Alcon South Africa and the Contact Lens Lab of South Africa. She is also an alumna of the WCO Optometry Program in Advocacy and Leadership (OPAL) and a recipient of the 2026 IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year Award - EAME. Passionate about education, advancing clinical practice, and ocular health advocacy, Dr. Chetty is committed to strengthening optometric public health and research across Africa.
